So I Joined a Running Group
This may or may not surprise you. I am by no means a couch potato but the reality is I am not a runner. I lift weights, I do aerobics, I run stairs (now all this may surprise you as well) but I don’t like running. It’s hard, I’m slow, I sweat a lot, ….really must I go on? Ultimately I think it comes down to the fact that I don’t have that crazy run-miles-and-miles-in-any-kind-of-weather mentality.
That said, it’s going pretty well. The class is designed for beginners so it’s full of non-runners just like me. There are also some pretty good runners in there but that’s OK because I fall right in the middle. I’m not the fastest but I’m not the slowest and that’s fine (can’t you feel that competitive spirit from within).
We meet once a week and so far we’ve run a straight 3.5 miles during each session. Imagine my surprise when I learned that we are supposed to not only run on Monday nights as a group but we should also fit in at least two more runs during the week. This class has homework?
It has been suggested that the next time we meet some of the stronger runners should try to go a little further. How much further was not discussed but seeing as this was suggested of the “stronger” runners I’m sure they weren’t talking to me. I’m just in the middle. Not the strongest, but not the weakest.
If anyone is interested the class is offered through the KC Track Club WWW.KCTRACK.ORG. Really, if I can do it anyone can. After all, I’m not a runner.

God bless you, child.
If I ran 3.5 miles, I’d be praying to God the route ended at an Emergency Room!
(Hmmm… maybe I will try and use the elliptical today… maybe…)
